Degree Program Information
The BA (History) program puts special focus on maritime history. It will also accentuate the West Visayan heritage and culture, which is a mark of University of the Philippines Visayas. Finally, the BA (History) program adopts the Outcome Based Education (OBE) Framework to ensure the efficiency and consistency of handling of the course offerings.
Program Outcomes
The BA (History) program aims to provide a balance of new introductory course, a methodology course, a practicum course and historiography courses that will equip students with necessary knowledge, practical research skills and critical thinking attitude as they experience serving the nation and humanity.
At the end of the 4-year BA (History) program the students will be able to:
- Share a comprehensive historical knowledge of the locale, the Philippines, Asia and the world.
- Demonstrate the versatility of history as a social science and a humanistic discipline.
- Discover new knowledge on local history especially those connected to West Visayan maritime heritage through research.
- Apply historical inquiry in discussing contemporary issues
- Interpret documents and sources in various languages necessary for research
- Solve problems in the workplace and everyday life using historical methodology
- Evaluate critically relevant historical data, sources and literature
- Advocate for the role of history in asserting ethical standards, gender equality and national identity.
- Exhibit nationalism, social justice and public welfare as inherent to history and social sciences.
