Socio 101
General Sociology
This course introduces you to the promise and excitement of Sociology. Sociology explores all social relations and seeks to understand why people create the societies they inhabit, behave as they do, and what they can do to take charge of their common destiny more effectively. This course explores the central paradox of sociological analysis: how human social life is shaped by relatively enduring and stable social institutions, and how these institutions are created by human beings.

A critical discussion of contemporary social issues in the Philippines using sociological perspectives, theories, and social science research methods.

Rural Sociology

The course highlights the link between the organization of resource-based industries and the social characteristics of rural communities. It also brings into focus rural-urban differences in aspects such as healthcare and development.

Qualitative Methods in Social Research
Introduction to variety of qualitative approaches in investigating the social world; the underlying principles and methods of qualitative research; the different techniques of generating qualitative data (i.e., textual analysis, participant observation, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews); different qualitative data analyses; and other necessary skills in handling qualitative data (ethical concerns and researcher bias).
