DSS leads UPV Flag-raising Ceremony for October 2026

Division of Social Sciences faculty members and administrative staff led the flag-raising ceremony of the University of the Philippines Visayas earlier today, October 5, 2026.

Dr. Moniq M. Muyargas, Division Chairperson, led the contingent composed of Mr. Michael Benjamin Ramirez (Economics), Ms. Marie Louissie Ynez Lavega (Sociology), Ms. Ann Mharie Palomo (Sociology), as well as Ms. Meekela Jain and Michelle Magallanes, administrative staff. The contingent led the various parts of the flag-raising ceremony.

Dr. Muyargas then delivered a short message in celebration of Mental Health Month. She stressed the recognition of both individual and collective aspects of mental health and well-being. While one’s approaches to taking care of their mental health can depend on the person and their contexts, our collective well-being matters just as much; university employees need and deserve a workplace that is safe, open, and compassionate–open and respectful to difference, where people feel safe to speak up, and where compassion matters as much as productivity. She exhorted the attendees to be more kind and compassionate to each other and to oneself.
